On 27th April, 2018. The American Embassy Rwanda General Service office GSO Administrative Assistant madam Diana Uwera has asked the youth to develop a reading culture. Madam Uwera was speaking at Mount Kenya University after donating several books to the university library. She promised to help the university get an American corner where the locals shall walk in to read and borrow books to enhance their literacy levels.

The American Corner is an American-style resource center designed to increase mutual understanding between Rwanda and the United States.  The Corner offers programs and activities in five core areas: English language learning, Education USA advising, cultural programs, alumni engagement, and information about the United States. The Corner also offers resources, such as books, films and documentaries, games, “maker space” equipment, and Internet access.

The American Kigali is usually an inclusive space where patrons, particularly youth, can cultivate STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) skills through hands-on learning experiences. The Corner will provide access to creative technology, such as 3D printing, electronics kits, video and music production tools, and much more.
